There are so many traditions and supersitions surrounding weddings, but many of us don't know why they even exist or where they came from. Over the next few weeks, let's check 'em out and bust some of these wedding myths, shall we? Up first.....To See or Not To See! It's Bad Luck To See the Bride Before the Wedding!! - Alright, y'all. Why is this? You've seen each other before, and you've seen your bride all dressed up, hair and makeup done. So why is the biggest day of your lives as a couple any different? This one stems from the days of arranged marriages, which usually were an agreement between families, and often the couple getting married hadn't ever met. The bride's father was afraid that if the groom didn't find the bride attractive, he'd call off the wedding, which would cast shame and embarrassment on the bride's family. So they didn't allow the couple to see each other until the ceremony. This is also what a blusher veil was for...to hide the bride's face until they were so far into the wedding ceremony that the groom couldn't back out. Super romantic, huh? These days, you've (hopefully) seen each other prior to the big day. Some couples still reserve the excitement of the big reveal until the ceremony, but some couples are opting for a more comfortable "First Look" photo op moment. They get a few moments together prior to the ceremony, usually with a photographer handy to capture the groom's reaction. This is GREAT! If you're like me, you are going to cry during your ceremony, and end up with makeup all over the place, and red splotchy eyes. Get those photos done while hair and makeup are still freshly done. And seriously, how amazing are these photos?!? You want to make your man cry, ladies? Do it when he's not in front of a ton of people staring at him.
