{Wedding Tips & Trick} My Wedding, My Way - Getting Parents Involved-But-Not-Too-Involved - Sound Wave Events - Boise Wedding DJ

Let's talk parents. Some of you may have the most amazing parents. They consider your feelings, style, and plans for your perfect wedding. Others may have the "must-be-involved-in-everything" kind of parent. They may try to make your big day go their way, or look the way they have always envisioned for you. If you are less Puffy Princess Dress, and more Modern Sleek Bride, check out these ways to keep your parents involved, but still keep your style at the forefront.

Give Mom (or Dad) A Job - Let them plan something! Just say "This is your job. Go nuts!" Be prepared that it's not going to be exactly how you would plan it, but sometimes that is a good thing. They have known you your entire life, after all. They might even know what you like better than you do (I know, I know. You all just cringed a bit). But seriously. It will help to make them feel involved and important. You might be able to squeeze in a few simple guidelines, but give them something that isn't going to make or break your big day if it isn't exactly what you want. Some great "mom jobs" are invitations, dinner or appetizers, and floral arrangements (think centerpieces or aisle decorations). For an example of when parents made a bride's big day perfect, without her even knowing, check out this blog post from a few weeks ago.

First Look
- We all know about the groom seeing his bride for the first time, and the beautiful photos that can be captured during those first couple of seconds. But what about the first time a bride's daddy sees his little girl all dressed up for the first time? Those are photos you both are sure to treasure for the rest of your lives, and your children and friends will love seeing them, too (I know I cry every time I see them!).

Getting Ready - Some of the sweetest moments between a bride and her mother, or a groom and his mother, are the little things right before your big moment. When you're getting ready, have your mom zip up your wedding gown (Grooms: let mom tie your tie, or pin on your boutonniere). I'll bet she'll be thinking of another time, when she zipped up a pretty dress on a much smaller version of you.

Special Dance/Song - Have your parent pick a special song for the two of you to dance to. Or if your parents have "their song," have a special anniversary dance dedicated to them and their marriage, and have their song played (my grandparent's song is Unforgettable. It's a must play at every family event.) One of the most fun moments at a wedding I attended was during the Mother/Son dance. It started out with just the groom, lip synching a special song to his mother, and then all of his siblings joined in on the chorus. Things like this remind parents that you aren't forgetting about them or leaving their family, you are bringing someone new and very special to you into their family.
